About tool steel scrap
Tool steel is alloyed and heat-treated for hardness, toughness and wear resistance, which is why it is the material of cutting tools, dies and machine parts in automotive, aerospace and general manufacturing. The same alloy content that makes it valuable in service, tungsten, molybdenum, cobalt, vanadium and chromium, makes it valuable when the tool is spent.
We buy the typical end-of-life items: drills, end mills, taps, broaches, saw blades, dies and punches, together with the turnings and swarf from machining them. Grades are confirmed by spark test and XRF before settlement, so a drum of mixed high-speed steel is paid for the M42 and T15 it contains, not at a blended rate.
Grades we buy
| Grade / type | Forms accepted |
|---|---|
| M2, M1, M42, M35, M36 | Solids and turnings |
| T1, T5, T15 | Solids and turnings |
| A2, S7 | Solids and turnings |
| REX / CPM grades | All grades and forms |
| Other alloy and die steels | Ask; most are purchased |
Keep turnings dry and separate by grade where you can. Oil and mixed grades are fine but settle lower.
